What is a kitchen party?
At a kitchen party, the purpose of the event is to not only celebrate the bride-to-be and present her with gifts but also to acknowledge that she has completed a thorough and extensive training course on being a good wife. The course is taught by two senior aunties with marriage experience who are chosen by the bride-to-be’s mother. The event is a women-dominated affair, with the groom and his entourage making a spectacular entrance before allowing the ladies to continue with the proceedings. Guests bring kitchen party gifts, usually in the form of utensils, to help the bride-to-be start her new home. Monetary gifts can also be given in the form of gift cards.
